Literacy - Reading Support Strategies

Fluency

Based on initial assessment data, students will work to increase reading fluency through both practice and strategy instruction.  Using research-based methods, students will improve their ability to decode words and improve the speed and accuracy of reading both fiction and non-fiction text at an appropriate level.

Comprehension

Students will receive both instruction and opportunities to practice demonstrating their comprehension of appropriately levelled text.  Strategy instruction will be based on age/grade appropriate curricular competencies and may include retelling, inferring, sequencing, summarizing, etc.
